MELBOURNE - Apr 27/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between
Lockhart River and Point Danger, including Hervey Bay and Moreton Bay.
Flood warnings are current for various rivers and streams.

web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A slow-moving high [1035 hPa] is expected to remain over the southern Tasman
Sea for the next couple of days, extending a strong ridge along the east
Queensland coast. An upper-level low situated over inland Queensland will
continue to move slowly east.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Scattered showers along the east coast, tending isolated about remaining
eastern inland areas. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms through the
central interior and the southwest. Fine in the northwest. Cool temperatures
away from the northern tropics. Moderate to fresh and gusty S to SE winds along
the east coast, strong at times south of Lockhart River. Moderate to fresh E to
SE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper-level low will move east over central districts, moving off the
coast late in the day. A weak low is expected to form over the central Coral
Sea. The high will maintain a firm ridge along the east coast and, in
combination with the low, maintain fresh to strong SE winds along the Queensland
east coast with moderate E to SE winds inland. Scattered showers along the east
Queensland coast and adjacent inland, more enhanced with possible thunderstorms
between about Bowen and Bundaberg due to the upper-level low. Isolated showers
elsewhere over the eastern interior and through the Peninsula district, with
isolated thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula. Below average
temperatures away from the northern tropics.
Forecast for Friday
The upper-level low will move slowly southeast into the southern Coral Sea.
The high will move over New Zealand, while the surface low over the central
Coral Sea is expected to move south southeast. Winds should gradually ease along
the east Queensland coast south of about Sandy Cape but could still be strong at
times depending on the intensity of the surface low. Isolated showers about much
of the east coast and adjacent inland, tending scattered about the Southeast
Coast. Fine elsewhere. Temperatures below average over much of the state away
from the far northern tropics.
Forecast for Saturday
The high moves further away from Australia and the east coast ridge relaxes
as a result. The surface low moves south so the strongest winds are expected
along the south coast, while continuing to ease further elsewhere. Isolated
showers about the east coast north of about Cardwell and south of about
Rockhampton in a moist airflow. Fine elsewhere. Temperatures will remain below
average over much of the state away from the far northern tropics.
Forecast for Sunday
The surface low is forecast to deepen and move south into the Tasman Sea
directing cool and relatively dry S'ly winds over much of the state. Isolated
showers along the east coast north of about Cardwell. Some high cloud with
little or no rain developing in the far southwest as a new upper trough
approaches western Queensland.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The surface low weakens and moves towards New Zealand while a new weak ridge
builds from a high over Western Australia. Isolated showers to remain about the
northern tropical east coast in moist, onshore winds. A trough system is
forecast to rapidly move across southern Queensland on Monday and Tuesday
triggering isolated showers and high based thunderstorms in southern districts.
This trough is forecast to move offshore by Wednesday with mostly fine
conditions over southern parts in its wake.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
