Weather Situation
A high [1027 hPa] lies over southeast Australia and extends a ridge along the
east Queensland coast. The ridge is expected to strengthen as the high moves
into the southern Tasman Sea by Monday and intensifies.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers about the eastern parts of the state, tending scattered
along the north tropical and southern coasts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
about Cape York Peninsula. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds along the east coast.
Mostly light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered along the north
tropical and southern coasts. Isolated afternoon and evening showers over the
eastern interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about Cape York Peninsula.
Moderate to fresh S to SE winds in eastern districts, strong at times along the
coast. Mostly light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should intensify a little further as it remains over the southern
Tasman sea, maintaining fresh to strong southeast winds and scattered showers
along the east coast of Queensland. More isolated showers can be expected about
the central and southern interior during the afternoon and evening, assisted by
a new upper trough moving over southern Queensland. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms about the far north of the Peninsula district.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will maintain strength as it remains slow moving over the southern
Tasman sea, maintaining fresh to strong southeast winds and scattered showers
along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated afternoon and evening showers
across the central and southern interior as the upper trough moves over these
regions. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the far north of the Peninsula
district.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will remain intense while moving slowly towards the southeast,
though fresh to strong southeast winds are expected to continue along the east
coast of Queensland with scattered showers. Isolated afternoon and evening
showers across the central and southern interior, with the upper trough moving
into eastern districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the far north
of the Peninsula district.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high should drift slowly southeast towards New Zealand while the upper
trough will move offshore. The firm ridge will begin weakening, easing the winds
along the east coast over the weekend. Showers will continue about the east
coast, tending more isolated over the eastern interior. Showers and
thunderstorms will continue over the Peninsula district, but conditions should
remain fine in the west.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
