Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 23/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for various rivers and
streams.

Weather Situation
A high [1024 hPa] lies over southeast Australia and extends a ridge along the
east Queensland coast. The ridge is expected to strengthen as the high moves
into the southern Tasman Sea by Monday and intensifies.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Isolated showers about the east coast, tending scattered along the north
tropical and southern coasts. Isolated afternoon and evening showers over the
eastern interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about Cape York Peninsula.
Moderate to fresh S to SE winds along the east coast. Mostly light to moderate
SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
The high should strengthen further while moving into the southern Tasman sea,
with fresh to strong southeast winds along the east coast of Queensland.
Isolated showers will continue about the east coast and eastern interior, with
more widespread showers about the North Tropical Coast. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms about the far north of the Peninsula district.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should intensify a little further as it remains over the southern
Tasman sea, maintaining fresh to strong southeast winds and scattered showers
along the east coast of Queensland. More isolated showers can be expected about
the central and southern interior during the afternoon and evening, assisted by
a new upper trough moving over southern Queensland. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms about the far north of the Peninsula district.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will maintain strength as it remains slow moving over the southern
Tasman sea, maintaining fresh to strong southeast winds and scattered showers
along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated afternoon and evening showers
across the central and southern interior as the upper trough moves over these
regions. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the far north of the Peninsula
district.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The high should drift slowly southeast towards New Zealand while the upper
trough will move offshore. The firm ridge will be maintained along the east
coast with fresh to strong onshore winds. Scattered showers will continue about
the east coast, tending more isolated over the eastern interior. Showers and
thunderstorms will continue over the Peninsula district, but conditions should
remain fine in the west.
