web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1022 hPa] lies over New Zealand. A weak low lies well off the central
coast. A high southwest of Perth extends a ridge into the Great Australian
Bight. This high will move east across southern Australia over the next few days
whilst intensifying.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Fine over a lot of the state, except for some isolated showers in the onshore
flow along the east coast and nearby inland areas, and some isolated showers and
storms about the southern border ranges. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
over Cape York Peninsula. The high in the Bight will push dry, light to moderate
SW to SE winds over the western districts with fine conditions over the west of
the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds about the eastern districts.
Forecast for Friday
The high in the Bight should drift slowly to the east while maintaining dry,
southerly winds over western Queensland and the southern interior. So fine
again over a lot of the state, but an onshore airflow will continue to produce
some isolated showers over the eastern districts, and there is just the chance
of a few isolated thunderstorms about the southeast as an upper level trough
moves over the area. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over Cape York
Peninsula and fine over the western districts. Early morning fog areas about
the east coast and nearby inland areas. Light to moderate S to SE winds over
the western and central districts, light to moderate E to SE winds over the
eastern districts.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move slowly east over southeastern Australia and continue to
extend a ridge over the Queensland interior, maintaining fine and dry conditions
in the state's interior. An onshore airflow will persist along the east coast,
with isolated showers expected as well as some early morning fogs. The upper
trough over southern Queensland will contract north, and may produce some
isolated thunderstorms east coast and the nearby inland areas. Isolated showers
and thunderstorms are again expected over the Peninsula district.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should strengthen near Tasmania and direct fresh southeast winds
onto Queensland's east coast. The onshore flow should cause cloud, winds and
showers to increase near the east coast and about the eastern ranges. The
showers will be more isolated over the nearby inland areas. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms will continue about the Peninsula district. Fine over the western
districts.
Forecast for Monday
The high should remain over the western reaches of the Tasman sea, and is
likely to maintain fresh to strong southeast winds along the east coast of
Queensland. So showers continuing about the east coast, with more isolated
falls again about the nearby inland areas. Remaining fine over the interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high should remain over the western reaches of the Tasman Sea,
maintaining a firm ridge and fresh to strong onshore winds along the east coast
of Queensland. Scattered showers will continue about the east coast, tending
more isolated over the nearby inland areas. Showers and thunderstorms will
continue over the Peninsula district, but conditions should remain fine in the
west and through the southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
