MELBOURNE - Apr 20/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for various rivers and
streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1022 hPa] lies over the Tasman Sea and is expected to move east of
New Zealand during today. A weak low lies well off the central coast. A high
southwest of Perth extends a ridge into the Great Australian Bight. This high
will move east across southern Australia over the next few days whilst
intensifying.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Moist onshore winds will bring showers to the east coast with areas of early
light rain and drizzle over the southeast interior. Isolated showers will also
develop during the afternoon over the eastern districts with isolated
thunderstorms possible about the southern border ranges. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula. The high in the Bight will push dry,
light to moderate SW to SE winds over the western districts with fine conditions
over the west of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds about the eastern
districts.
Forecast for Friday
The high in the Bight should drift slowly to the east while maintaining dry,
southerly winds over western Queensland and the southern interior. An onshore
airflow will continue to produce isolated showers along the east coast as well
as some early morning fogs. Isolated showers will also develop through the
eastern interior in the afternoon, with just the chance of a few isolated
thunderstorms about the southeast as an upper level trough moves over the area.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and fine over the
western districts.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move slowly east over southeastern Australia and continue to
extend a ridge over the Queensland interior. An onshore airflow will persist
along the east coast with isolated showers expected as well as some early
morning fogs. The upper trough over southern Queensland will contract north with
isolated thunderstorms possible about the central and northeast coasts and the
nearby inland areas. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are again expected over
the Peninsula district. Conditions will remain fine in the west and southern
interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should strengthen near Tasmania and direct fresh southeast winds
onto Queensland's east coast. The onshore flow should cause cloud, winds and
showers to increase near the east coast and about the eastern ranges. The
showers will be more isolated over the nearby inland areas. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms will continue about the Peninsula district. Fine over the western
districts.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high should move slowly east over into the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm
ridge and strong onshore winds along the east coast of Queensland. Scattered
showers will continue about the east coast, tending more isolated over the
adjacent inland. Showers and thunderstorms will continue over the Peninsula
district but conditions should remain fine in the west and through the southern
interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Thursday.
