Weather Situation
A high [1024 hPa] lies over the Tasman Sea and is expected to move east of
New Zealand during Thursday. This high extends a ridge along the east coast of
Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the Peninsula and northern
Gulf Country districts. Mainly isolated showers elsewhere over the remaining
eastern districts, more widespread about the Wide Bay and Capricornia coasts.
Showers and areas of drizzle about the southeast interior. Fine over the west
of the state. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh along the central and
northern coasts.
Forecast for Thursday
The high east of New Zealand will maintain onshore winds and showers along
the east coast, and showers and areas of drizzle over the southeast interior.
Isolated showers also developing during the afternoon over the eastern
districts. Isolated showers and storms over Cape York Peninsula. A new high
will enter the Bight and will push dry, and light to moderate SW to SE winds
over the western districts. Light to moderate SE to NE winds about the eastern
districts.
Forecast for Friday
The high in the Bight should drift slowly to the east while maintaining dry
southerly winds over the Queensland interior. An onshore airflow will continue
to produce isolated showers along the east coast. Isolated showers also
developing through the eastern interior in the afternoon, with just the chance
of a few isolated thunderstorms about the southeast as an upper level trough
moves over the area. Isolated showers and storms over Cape York Peninsula, and
fine over the western districts.
Forecast for Saturday
The high will move slowly east over southeastern Australia and continue to
extend a ridge over the Queensland interior. An onshore airflow will persist
along the east coast with isolated showers expected. The upper trough over
southern Queensland will contract north with isolated thunderstorms possible
about the central and northeast coasts and the nearby inland areas. Isolated
showers and storms again over the Peninsula district. Conditions will remain
fine in the west.
Forecast for Sunday
The high should strengthen near Tasmania, and direct fresh to strong
southeast winds onto Queensland's east coast. The onshore flow should cause
cloud, winds and showers to increase near the east coast and about the eastern
ranges. More isolated showers over the nearby inland areas, and isolated
showers and storms continuing about the Peninsula district. Fine over the
western districts.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
The high should move slowly east over Bass Strait and into the Tasman Sea,
maintaining a firm ridge and brisk onshore winds along the east coast of
Queensland. Isolated showers will continue over the eastern districts. Isolated
showers and storms over the Peninsula district. Conditions should remain fine in
the west and through the southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Thursday.
