Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 19/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high [1024 hPa] lies over the Tasman Sea and extends a ridge along the east
Queensland coast. A surface trough lies offshore from the Capricorn coast and is
expected to continue moving eastwards over the Coral Sea. An upper level trough
lies over the southern coast and is expected to weaken further and move east
over the Coral Sea tonight.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Scattered showers over the east coast south of about Bundaberg. Isolated
showers and drizzle areas over remaining central parts and the southeast
interior. Isolated showers over the tropics, more scattered over the Peninsula
district with isolated thunderstorms. Fine in the west. Light to moderate SE to
NE winds, fresh at times along the southern coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper level trough should continue to move east over the Coral Sea, with
conditions stabilising further over southeastern and central Queensland.
Isolated showers will continue in an onshore airflow over the east coast,
developing through the eastern and southern interior in the afternoon. More
widespread showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected over the Peninsula
district due to a deep, moist airstream. Fine conditions are expected in the
west. Daytime temperatures will start to climb back to near average over
southern and central Queensland. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, tending more
S'ly over western Queensland.
Forecast for Thursday
A large high will begin to move into the Great Australian Bight, extending a
ridge into southern Queensland. An onshore airflow with isolated showers will
persist along the east coast, with isolated showers also developing through the
eastern and southern interior in the afternoon. More scattered shower activity
is expected on the northeast tropical coast, with thunderstorms likely over the
Peninsula district. Conditions will remain fine in the west.
Forecast for Friday
The large high will move slowly east over the Great Australian Bight and
continue to extend a ridge over the Queensland interior. An onshore airflow will
persist along the east coast with isolated showers expected, developing through
the eastern and southern interior in the afternoon. An upper trough passing over
southern Queensland may produce isolated afternoon and evening showers and a
possible late thunderstorm over the southeast. More scattered shower activity is
expected on the northeast tropical coast, with thunderstorms likely over the
Peninsula district. Conditions will remain fine in the west.
Forecast for Saturday
The large high will move slowly east over southeastern Australia and continue
to extend a ridge over the Queensland interior. An onshore airflow will persist
along the east coast with isolated showers expected. The upper trough over
southern Queensland will contract north with isolated thunderstorms possible
about the central and northeast coasts and the adjacent inland. More scattered
shower activity is expected on the northeast tropical coast, with thunderstorms
likely over the Peninsula district. Conditions will remain fine in the west.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The large high will move slowly east over Bass Strait and into the Tasman
Sea. The high will extend a ridge and onshore winds onto the east coast of
Queensland. Isolated showers will continue over eastern districts, more
widespread with isolated thunderstorms through the Peninsula district.
Conditions should remain fine in the west and through the southern interior.
