MELBOURNE - Apr 18/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is located over the Tasman Sea and extends a ridge to northeast Victoria. A cold front moving into western Bass Strait will weaken as it moves into central Bass Strait this afternoon. Further cold fronts will move across Victoria on Wednesday and Thursday then the next high pressure system will develop over Adelaide during Friday and extend a ridge eastwards across northern Victoria. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayMostly cloudy with isolated showers, mainly in the southwest but extending to the central and northern inland areas during the day. A mild to warm day with a light to moderate north to northwesterly wind and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger - Low to moderate.Wednesday 20 AprilCloudy with isolated showers, more widespread in the southwest and tending to rain areas on the eastern ranges. The chance of an afternoon thunderstorm in the east. A mild day with light to moderate northwesterly winds shifting west to southwesterly from the west.Thursday 21 AprilIsolated showers about the northeast and east and the chance of isolated thunderstorms on the east ranges. Isolated showers redeveloping across southern and mountain areas later in the day with the next cold front. A mild day with moderate west to northwesterly winds, tending cooler, fresh and gusty westerly.Friday 22 AprilScattered showers on and south of the ranges and isolated showers extending to the northwest inland. Snow falls developing on the east ranges above 1600 metres.
