MELBOURNE - Apr 16/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak ridge lies along the east coast of Queensland. A surface trough lies over the Queensland interior. An upper level trough is moving slowly east over the Queensland interior. Forecast for the rest of Saturday Scattered showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over central and southeast districts. Moderate falls possible over the southeast inland, mainly this morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior. Isolated showers about the eastern tropics with isolated thunderstorms about the far northern Peninsula. A cool day in the west and south. Light to moderate S to SE winds along the east coast, freshening in the afternoon and evening. Moderate SW to SE winds over the interior. Forecast for Sunday The upper level trough is expected to strengthen over the southern and central Queensland interior, and the surface trough should drift westwards back to the central parts of the state. Showers and thunderstorms over the central, southern and southeast interior, increasing to thundery rain areas again during the day. Showers increasing a little over the remaining eastern districts as winds along the east coast develop a more onshore direction. Continuing unstable over northern Cape York Peninsula with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Below average maximum temperatures again over the southern and central interior. Forecast for Monday The upper level trough should lie over the southern and central Queensland interior, and move gradually eastwards late in the day. The trough should produce areas of thundery rain over the central districts, the southern interior and the southeast. Moderate to heavy falls over parts of the central and southeast interior. A low may develop off the Central or Capricornia coast with heavier falls and stronger winds. Showers about the eastern tropics and continuing unstable over northern Cape York Peninsula with showers and isolated thunderstorms. Below average maximum temperatures over the southern and central interior. Forecast for Tuesday The upper level trough will move east off the coast by late in the day. Thundery rain areas are expected to affect the southeast of the state, but contracting towards the east then off the coast. Rain and winds easing about the Capricornia coast as the low moves east. Isolated showers or thunderstorms about the southern interior with residual instability after the upper trough. Isolated showers in the tropical east, with unstable conditions continuing over the far northern Peninsula. Below average maximum temperatures over the southern and central interior. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday A ridge over the state with isolated showers about the tropical coast in a moderate onshore airflow. Fine elsewhere.
