MELBOURNE - Apr 15/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood warnings are current. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak ridge lies along the east coast of Queensland. A surface trough from the northwest to the southern inland of the state, slow moving. An upper level low over NSW and upper trough moving through SW Queensland. Forecast for the rest of Friday Thundery rain areas about the southwest and southern inland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms through the remaining southern half of the state. Isolated showers in the tropical east. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SE to NE winds east of the trough, shifting SW to SE over the west during the day. Forecast for Saturday Thundery rain areas over the southern inland, extending to the southeast during the afternoon and evening. Moderate to possibly heavy falls in the Darling Downs and eastern Maranoa and Warrego district. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the central interior. Isolated showers about the eastern tropics with isolated thunderstorms about the far northern Peninsula. Light to moderate SE to NE winds east of the surface trough, cool with moderate to fresh southerly winds west of the surface trough. Forecast for Sunday The upper level trough is expected to strengthen over the southern and central Queensland interior, and the surface trough should drift westwards back to the central parts of the state. Showers and thunderstorms over the central, southern and southeast interior, increasing to thundery rain areas again during the day. Showers increasing a little over the remaining eastern districts as winds along the east coast develop a more onshore direction. Continuing unstable over northern Cape York Peninsula with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Below average maximum temperatures again over the southern and central interior. Forecast for Monday The upper level trough should lie over the southern and central Queensland interior, and move gradually eastwards late in the day. The trough should produce areas of thundery rain over the central districts, the southern interior and the southeast. Showers about the eastern tropics and continuing unstable over northern Cape York Peninsula with showers and isolated thunderstorms. Below average maximum temperatures over the southern and central interior. Forecast for Tuesday The upper level trough will weaken while moving towards the far east of the state. Thundery rain areas are expected to affect the southeast of the state, but contracting towards the east then off the coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the southern interior with residual instability after the upper trough. Isolated showers in the tropical east, with continuing unstable conditions in the far northern Peninsula. Below average maximum temperatures over the southern and central interior. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The upper trough will move off the coast, pushing the rain areas offshore. Isolated showers expected about the eastern districts, with thunderstorms in the far north. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
