Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 14/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A trough and weak low are
lying over the Coral Sea. An upper trough is moving over South Australia and
intensifying.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Fine over most of the state. Isolated showers about the central to Wide Bay
coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula.
Cloudy with patchy thundery rain over the southwest. Light to moderate SE to NE
winds along the east coast. Mostly light winds over the interior.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers about the east coast and adjacent inland. Isolated showers
over the tropical interior with isolated thunderstorms over northern Cape York
Peninsula. Cloudy and cool with areas of thundery rain spreading across the
interior south of about Longreach, reaching the Darling Downs and Granite Belt
in the afternoon and evening. Morning fog patches about the east coast and
adjacent inland. Light to moderate SE to NE winds east of the trough, shifting
SW to SE over the west during the day.
Forecast for Saturday
A surface trough is expected to move east over the central and southern
interior. The upper trough will move east and produce thundery rain areas over
the southeastern quarter of the state. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over
the Central Highlands district, and isolated showers about much of the tropical
coast and interior east of the surface trough. Continuing unstable over northern
Cape York Peninsula with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Below average day
time temperatures over the central and southern interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The upper level trough will strengthen over the southern and central
Queensland interior, and the surface trough will drift westwards back to the
central parts of the state. Showers and thunderstorms over the central, southern
and southeast interior, increasing to thundery rain areas again during the day.
Showers increasing over the remaining eastern districts as winds along the east
coast develop a more onshore direction. Continuing unstable over northern Cape
York Peninsula with isolated showers and thunderstorms. Below average maximum
temperatures over the southern and central interior.
Forecast for Monday
The strong upper trough over the southern and central Queensland interior is
expected to move east late in the day. Areas of thundery rain over central
districts, the southern interior and the southeast. Showers about the eastern
tropics and continuing unstable over northern Cape York Peninsula with showers
and isolated thunderstorms. Below average maximum temperatures over the southern
and central interior.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The upper trough is expected to move east during Tuesday and pass off the
east coast by mid week. As a result, areas of thundery rain and showers over
central and southern Queensland are expected to move off the east coast by
Wednesday. Isolated showers continuing about the coast with scattered showers
and isolated thunderstorms continuing over northern Cape York Peninsula. Daytime
temperatures remaining below average over most of central and southern
Queensland.

Friday.
