Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 11/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A slow moving high [1024 hPa] near New Zealand extends a weak ridge along the
east coast of Queensland. A weak monsoon trough lies over the northern parts of
the Coral Sea. A surface trough over the southern interior of the state will
drift to the east, moving off the southeast coast Tuesday morning.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Cloudy periods with isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southeastern
districts and the Central Highlands, contracting towards the east. Mostly fine
over the rest of the east coast, with only very isolated showers near the coast,
tending scattered north of Cooktown. Scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Fine in the west of
the state. Moderate S to SW winds in the west. Light to moderate NE to NW winds
over central and southeast districts ahead of a S to SW change extending from
the west. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over the tropics.
Forecast for Tuesday
The surface trough should move off the southeast coast during the morning,
contracting the isolated showers into the Wide Bay, Capricornia and Central
Highlands districts. Becoming fine in the southeast. Mainly fine though with
isolated morning fog patches along the remainder of the east coast. Scattered
showers and isolated storms over Cape York Peninsula and Torres Strait. Fine
over the central and western districts. Light to moderate S to SW winds over the
western, central interior and southern districts. Light to moderate SE to NE
winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Wednesday
A weak high near New Zealand should continue to extend a weak ridge and
mainly moderate SE winds along the east tropical coast of Queensland. Scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms are again expected about the Peninsula
district and Torres Strait. Mostly fine over the remainder of the state, with
only early morning fog patches and very isolated afternoon showers about the
east coast. Remaining dry in the west.
Forecast for Thursday
The high near New Zealand will continue to extend a weak ridge and mainly
moderate SE winds along the tropical east coast of Queensland. Showers should
increase along the northeast coast during the day, while more widespread showers
and isolated thunderstorms will continue over the Peninsula district. Mostly
fine conditions should continue over the remainder of the state, though with
patches of early morning fog and some isolated afternoon showers about the east
coast. A new upper level trough should intensify over South Australia, resulting
in increasing cloud and some patchy rain developing in the southern Channel
Country late in the day.
Forecast for Friday
The upper level trough should lie near Channel Country, and is expected to
produce thundery rain areas about the southwest of the state. A surface trough
should also generate some isolated shower and storms over the Central West
district. Isolated showers over the eastern districts, tending to scattered
showers with isolated thunderstorms over the northern tropics.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The surface trough is expected to move further to the east during the
weekend. This trough will work with the upper level trough to cause an increase
in showers and thunderstorms over the eastern districts and the southern
interior. Clearing in the western districts.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
