MELBOURNE - Apr 11/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system is forming off the Gippsland coast and will move westwards overnight and tomorrow towards central Bass Strait. The low will drift slowly eastwards during Wednesday and Thursday as a high ridges to the south of Tasmania. The low will be located near New Zealand by late Friday and as the high centre moves to just west of Tasmania. Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers increasing to scattered this evening. Isolated thunderstorms mainly over the far north. Snowfalls about the Alpine peaks. Cool with light winds in the east and moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds developing over the west.Tuesday 12 AprilShowers mainly over southern and mountain areas, tending to rain areas over the Central and West and South Gippsland districts with some heavy falls likely. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms in East Gippsland. Snowfalls about the higher Alpine peaks. A cool to cold day with generally moderate to fresh west to southwesterly winds extending to most districts by the evening.Fire Danger - Low to moderate.Wednesday 13 AprilScattered showers mainly over southern and mountain districts, widespread over West and South Gippsland. Cool with moderate to locally fresh west to southwesterly winds.Thursday 14 AprilScattered showers on and south of the ranges. Isolated afternoon showers over the north, but fine over the far northwest. Cool with moderate to locally fresh southwest to southeasterly winds.Friday 15 AprilScattered showers over Gippsland and near the Otway ranges. Isolated showers over remaining southern and mountain districts, but fine over the north and northwest.
