Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 5/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Cape Melville and
Point Danger, including Hervey Bay.

Weather Situation
A surface trough lies east of Cape York Peninsula. A high [1034 hPa] near
Tasmania is expected to drift slowly east over the next few days, whilst
maintaining a strong ridge of high pressure along the east coast of Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Scattered showers about the east coast, with more isolated showers about the
eastern interior.  Just the chance of some isolated thunderstorms about the
southeast interior, mainly about the ranges. Scattered showers, patchy rain and
isolated thunderstorms over the northern tropics with the chance of moderate to
locally heavy falls near the east coast north of about Port Douglas. Cloudy with
only isolated showers about the Gulf Country and Northern Goldfields districts.
Fine over the southern and central interior. Fresh to strong and gusty SE winds
along much of the east coast. Light to moderate E to SE winds over the interior,
fresh at times during the day.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will move into the western Tasman Sea, and so should continue to
produce showers and fresh SE winds along the east Queensland coast, strong north
of about Fraser Island. More isolated showers extending into the eastern
interior, and the chance of some isolated thunderstorms about the southeast. An
upper trough should persist over the state, causing showers and storms to again
spread out to patchy rain areas over the far north of the state. Remaining fine
over the west and southern interior.
Forecast for Friday
The high should move slowly east over the Tasman Sea, while maintaining a
firm ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Moderate to fresh SE winds and
scattered showers persisting over much of the east coast, with more isolated
showers over the eastern interior. More widespread showers and isolated
thunderstorms over the southeast due to the upper trough moving over this
region. Scattered showers and isolated storms over the far north. Fine over the
remainder of the state.
Forecast for Saturday
The high over the Tasman Sea should weaken a little, allowing the ridge and
winds along the east coast to also gradually weaken. Moderate to fresh SE winds
and scattered showers persisting over much of the east coast, with more isolated
showers over the nearby inland areas. More widespread showers over the southeast
as the upper trough moves offshore. Scattered showers and isolated storms
persisting over the far north. Fine over the remainder of the state.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high is expected to continue weakening as it drifts southeast over the
southern Tasman Sea. This will continue to ease winds along the east coast and
contract coastal showers into the tropics by Monday. Scattered showers and
isolated thunderstorms continuing over the far north of the state, but the
remainder of the state should be fine.
