For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A surface trough lies off the north tropical coast. A strong high [1036hPa]
in the Great Australian Bight will move slowly east over the next few days,
strengthening a ridge of high pressure along the east Queensland coast. A weak
surface trough lies over the southern interior.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Scattered showers, isolated storms and rain areas over the northern tropics.
Isolated showers along the east coast and nearby inland areas. Fine conditions
over the southern and central interior. Some high cloud Mostly moderate east to
southeast winds, becoming fresh to strong about the east coast. Strong to gale
force winds about the coast and islands between Cooktown and Bowen.
Forecast for Tuesday
The strong high should be centred near Tasmania, with fresh to strong SE'ly
winds continuing along much of the east coast of Queensland and gales persisting
along the North Tropical Coast. Rain areas and thunderstorms should continue
through the northern tropics, with moderate to heavy falls possible about the
coast and ranges north of about Cardwell. Scattered showers along the coast
south of about Mackay, with more isolated shower activity extending to nearby
inland areas. Fine over the central and southern interior, and also over the
northwest district.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high near Tasmania will maintain the fresh to strong SE'ly winds along
much of the east coast of Queensland. This onshore flow should maintain
scattered showers about the southern tropical, central and southeast coasts, and
more isolated showers about the nearby inland areas. An upper level trough will
maintain at least patchy rain areas, scattered showers and isolated storms over
the northern tropics. Fine over the southern and central interior, and also over
the northwest district.
Forecast for Thursday
The high will only move slightly to the east into the western reaches of the
Tasman Sea, and so should continue to produce showers and fresh to strong winds
along the east coast of Queensland. More isolated showers again extending to
nearby inland areas during the day. An upper trough will persist over the
state, causing showers and storms to again spread out to patchy rain areas over
the far north of the state. Remaining fine over the southern and central
interior.
Forecast for Friday
The high in the southern Tasman Sea will maintain a ridge along the east
coast with moderate to fresh SE winds and isolated showers, tending scattered
with isolated thunderstorms over the tropics. Fine elsewhere, except for
isolated showers along the remainder of the east coast and adjacent inland
areas.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The high should move slowly east over the southern Tasman Sea and weaken with
the SE winds easing along the east coast. Scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms persisting through the northern tropics. Isolated showers may
continue along the remaining parts of the east coast. Conditions should remain
fine over the southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
