Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 25/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for various rivers and streams.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high over the Great Australian Bight is extending a ridge and dry SW winds
over southern districts and the central interior. The high will also push a
fresh S to SE wind change up the southeast coast of Queensland during today. An
upper level trough lies across northern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated, mainly light showers developing about the southeast coast and
ranges. Scattered showers and areas of rain about the northeast coast, with
moderate to locally heavy falls possible. Scattered showers and thunderstorms
also over the remainder of the northern tropics. Fine and dry through the
remaining interior.
Forecast for Sunday
The high is expected to drift eastwards and should be centred near Victoria
by the evening. The high should continue to extend fresh to strong S to SE winds
along the central and southern coast of Queensland. These winds should produce
cloudy conditions with some mainly light showers about the southeast and central
coast, and the chance of some drizzle areas about the southern ranges. An upper
level trough should remain over the state, and along with a continued onshore
flow, may produce further moderate falls about northeast coastal districts.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms elsewhere over the northern tropics and
central coast district. Fine and dry through the remaining interior.
Forecast for Monday
The high pressure system should move east into the Tasman Sea and will
continue to direct fresh onshore winds onto the east coast of Queensland. The
onshore flow will maintain the cloud and showers about the southeast and central
coast districts, and areas of morning drizzle about the ranges in the southeast
of the state. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics, tending to
rain periods with moderate to possibly heavy falls about the tropical east
coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high should drift over the eastern reaches of the Tasman Sea and will
continue to push some mainly light showers onto the southeast and central
coasts. Freshening onshore winds should cause showers to increase in the Gulf
Country. An upper trough should remain over central parts of the state, and
along with continuing onshore winds should produce scattered showers and
possible rain periods about the northeast coast, once again with moderate to
heavy falls possible. Scattered showers and storms about the remainder of the
northern tropics and the Central Coast district.
Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
A weak monsoon trough may return to the southern reaches of the Gulf of
Carpentaria by the middle of the week, producing areas of rain and gusty showers
over the Gulf Country. Meanwhile an easing of the onshore flow will allow the
shower and storm activity to ease about the northeast coast. Isolated showers
and thunderstorms about the remainder of the northern tropics. Mainly light
showers should continue about the southern coast and nearby inland, clearing
north by Friday. Remaining fine about the southern and central interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Saturday.
