Weather Situation
A weakening ridge extends over the northern Coral Sea. A surface trough lies
from the tropical interior to along the east Queensland coast and is expected to
move off the southern and central coasts overnight.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics and about the
Central Coast district. Isolated showers over remaining east coastal districts,
clearing during the evening. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SW winds over the
interior, tending NW to NE near the east coast.
Forecast for Wednesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics, more isolated
about the Central Coast. Fine elsewhere. A very warm day in the Southeast Coast,
but cool in the west. Light winds over the northeast tropics. Light to moderate
S to SW winds elsewhere, with afternoon NE seabreezes along the southern to
central coast.
Forecast for Thursday
A new surface trough will move east over southern Queensland, moving off the
southern Queensland coast in the evening. A high over the Bight will extend a
ridge across the interior with drier S to SW winds. As a result, fine conditions
are expected over western, southern and most of central Queensland, cool in the
west. Unstable conditions will persist over the northern tropics with scattered
showers and thunderstorms, with more isolated showers and possible afternoon and
evening thunderstorms about the Central Coast district. Temperatures will remain
near or above the March average about the east coast, but below average
elsewhere.
Forecast for Friday
An upper level trough is expected to move across southern Queensland and the
central interior. The surface trough will persist over the northern tropics with
unstable conditions and scattered showers and thunderstorms. Areas of rain may
also develop due to an upper trough moving over southern Queensland and the
central interior. The high will remain slow moving over the eastern Bight and
begin to extend to a ridge along the southern Queensland coast late in the day
with isolated showers developing overnight. Fine conditions continuing over the
interior, remaining cool in the west.
Forecast for Saturday
The upper level trough will move over southeast Queensland and combined with
a strengthening ridge and S to SE winds is likely to bring some showers to the
southern and southern Capricornia coast and adjacent inland. The surface trough
over the tropics is likely to move a little south and west spreading showers,
thunderstorms and areas of rain further west across the Gulf Country and further
south into the northern Capricornia and Coalfields. Remaining fine over western
and southern inland Queensland.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
The high will move east into the southern Tasman Sea with a firm ridge over
most of the east Queensland coast with showers and fresh to strong SE winds. The
trough over the tropics is expected to continue moving west with showers,
thunderstorms and rain areas spreading west across the tropical interior on
Monday and then most likely south over western and central Queensland on
Tuesday. Remaining fine over the southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Wednesday.
