MELBOURNE - Mar 22/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A complex low pressure system lies across Bass Strait and along the southern New South Wales coast. The main low centre is expected to track southwestwards towards northern Tasmania on Wednesday before twirling in a loop and heading southeastwards to the southern Tasman sea on Thursday and Friday. A large high pressure system will move over Bight waters on Friday and then move towards western Victoria on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayRain areas in Gippsland and about the Otway coast with locally heavy falls. Scattered showers over remaining southern and mountain areas and isolated showers in the north. Isolated thunderstorms contracting to the coast. Strong easterly winds about the Gippsland coast, easing tonight and moderate westerlies elsewhere.Wednesday 23 MarchScattered showers, mostly in the west and about the ranges, tending to rain about the Otway coast. Only isolated showers in East Gippsland. The chance of thunderstorms near the coast. A generally cool to mild mostly cloudy day but somewhat warmer in East Gippsland with sunny breaks. Moderate to locally fresh northwest to southwesterly winds.Fire Danger - Low to moderate.Thursday 24 MarchScattered showers near and south of the ranges becoming widespread in the south late in the day. Isolated showers over the northern plains. A cool to mild day with freshening westerly wind turning southwesterly later from the west and strengthening about the coast.Friday 25 MarchScattered showers on and south of the divide and isolated showers over the northern plains. Cool and cloudy with fresh southwest to southerly wind, strong at first about the coast.Saturday 26 MarchIsolated showers in the south, contracting to the coast and Gippsland. Cool and mostly cloudy in the south but milder with some sunshine over the north.
