MELBOURNE - Mar 21/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A broad area of low pressure is over inland New South Wales with a low centre over the southwest. Another trough of low pressure extends across the northern Tasman Sea with a high near New Zealand with a deep east to northeast airstream between the two systems directed over eastern New South Wales. The low is expected to continue moving southeast towards Bass Strait. The trough extending from the low is expected to pass through most of the state by Tuesday night. The west to southwesterly airstream behind the trough is expected to affect New South Wales from Wednesday, tending more southerly in the north later in the week as high pressure ridges across the state. Forecast for the rest of Monday Rain areas and isolated thunderstorms with locally heavy falls in the southeast. East to northeast winds ahead of a west to southwest change developing in the west. Dangerous surf conditions, hazardous for coastal activities such as swimming, surfing and rock fishing, are expected along the southern parts of NSW coast. Tuesday 22 March Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon along the coast and ranges. Locally heavy showers on the south coast. Northeasterly winds tending southwesterly in the west. Dangerous surf conditions, hazardous for coastal activities such as swimming, surfing and rock fishing, are expected along the southern parts of the NSW coast. Wednesday 23 MarchIsolated showers in the northeast early. Isolated showers on the central and southern ranges and inland. Mostly sunny over the remainder of the coast. Northwest to southwest winds.Thursday 24 MarchIsolated showers over the southern half of the ranges and inland, mostly about the southwest slopes. Fine elsewhere. Northwest to southwest winds.Friday 25 MarchIsolated showers along the north coast and over the southwest slopes and southern inland. Fine elsewhere.
