A weak high in the Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge along the east coast of
Queensland. A surface trough lies through southern Queensland, and will move
slowly NE over the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Cloudy with thundery rain areas over southern and central parts of the state,
producing moderate to locally heavy falls. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
over the far north of the state, more widespread over the southern tropics.
Light to moderate NE to NW winds over most of the state, tending SW to SE in the
far south.
Forecast for Sunday
Cloudy with thundery rain areas in the southern and central parts of the
state, producing moderate to locally heavy falls in the central and eastern
areas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms about the northwest and southern
tropics, more isolated in the north. Light to moderate N to NW winds through
most of the state, tending SW to SE in the far south.
Forecast for Monday
A dry change behind the surface trough will move further to the east during
the day, clearing the weather and cooling the temperatures. Light patchy rain
and possible thunderstorms in the far southwest, clearing during the day. Rain
areas and scattered showers and thunderstorms with moderate to heavy falls
through the southern tropics, easing during the day. Patchy rain areas early in
the southeast and southern inland, easing to isolated afternoon showers and
thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Showers and isolate thunderstorms in
the far north.
Forecast for Tuesday
Dry air should extend further east over QLD as the trough moves east, leaving
the majority of the state fine. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the north
and far east, with isolated showers about the southeast. Below average
temperatures in the west, above average in the far east.
Forecast for Wednesday
Fine and stable conditions through most of the state, with the dry air
pushing north into the southern tropics. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in
the far north of the state. Cool temperatures in the west of the state, above
average in the far east.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
A ridge over South Australia should continue to extend dry air northwards
over QLD, with almost the entire state expected to see fine conditions except
for some showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics. The next upper
trough will bring some shower and storm activity to central areas during Friday
and Saturday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
