Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for the Bulloo, Herbert, Conners, Isaac, Mackenzie, Gulf and Western Queensland Rivers, including the Diamantina, Georgina and Barcoo Rivers. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A trough lies over the southern interior of Queensland and is expected to extend further into southeastern Queensland on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of Friday Rain areas and thunderstorms over the southern interior with moderate to possible locally heavy falls over the eastern Channel Country and the Central West, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and Maranoa and Warrego forecast districts. Cloudy over the Southeast Coast and central districts with patchy rain areas and possible isolated thunderstorms. Isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere. Light to moderate NW to NE winds over the southern and central parts of the state, tending SE to NE in the north. Forecast for Saturday Rain areas and thunderstorms over southern and central parts of the state with possible locally heavy falls, chiefly over areas southeast of about Longreach. Patchy rain areas and isolated showers over the southern tropics and northwest with isolated thunderstorms developing chiefly during the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula, tending scattered in the afternoon. Isolated showers elsewhere over the northern tropics with possible isolated thunderstorms inland. Light to moderate mostly NE to NW winds. Forecast for Sunday The trough over southeastern Queensland is expected to extend offshore. A high is expected to intensify over the Tasman Sea, extending a ridge towards southeastern Queensland and shifting the trough further north. Rain areas should therefore gradually contract north out of southeastern Queensland into the Wide Bay district, central parts of the state and the southern tropics with some moderate falls likely, possibly locally heavy. Conditions should remain cloudy over the far southeast with isolated showers expected in the wake of the rain band. A new trough will most likely move east into southwestern Queensland, producing showers and thunderstorms. Isolated showers and thunderstorms continuing over the northern tropics in a moist, unstable airmass, with thunderstorms occurring chiefly inland. Forecast for Monday Some uncertainty exists with the movement of the new trough but at this stage the most likely scenario is for it to move east over the southern interior. Thundery rain areas should continue to extend north from central districts into the tropics south of about Cairns with possible locally heavy falls. The trough over the southern interior is expected to produced showers and thunderstorms near and to its east, reaching southeastern inland parts. Isolated showers should occur over the southeast coast and also over the far southwest. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected over the far northern tropics. Forecast for Tuesday The trough over the southern interior will most likely move into southeastern Queensland and possibly contract off the southeast coast late Tuesday or early Wednesday. The trough should generate a band of showers and thunderstorms extending from the tropics into central and southeastern parts of the state, gradually contracting east during the day. Conditions should be mostly fine over western Queensland behind the trough, with just the chance of isolated showers near the southern border. Outlook for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday The trough will have most likely moved off the central Queensland coast into the Coral Sea by late Wednesday. A new high should move into the Tasman Sea, extending a ridge over southern and central parts of the state and contracting rain areas and thunderstorms into the tropics. Conditions should then remain mostly fine over southern and central parts of the state throughout the outlook period. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Saturday.
