For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A high east of New Zealand extends a ridge along the southern to central Queensland coast. A surface trough lies over the tropical east coast and is expected to move inland and west over the tropical interior during the day. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Areas of rain, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern and eastern tropics, spreading across the tropical and central interior during the day. Moderate to locally heavy falls about the Central Coast and Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts, easing in the afternoon. Isolated showers and afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the far west. Isolated showers about the Southeast Coast, developing about the Granite Belt and far southern Downs in the afternoon. Fine over the far southern interior. A cool day over the tropical and central interior. Mostly moderate SE to NE winds. Forecast for Wednesday The ridge persists along the east Queensland coast with scattered showers, more isolated in the southeast. A surface trough moves over northern New South Wales and into far southern Queensland late in the day. Remaining fine over the southern interior though with increasing cloud. Cool and cloudy with patchy rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the tropics, increasing to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southwest as the surface trough over the tropical interior moves west of the Queensland border. Forecast for Thursday The ridge persists along the east Queensland coast with generally scattered showers, more isolated in the southeast. The surface trough moves into far southern Queensland and combined with a weak upper trough over New South Wales produces afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms over the southeast interior. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the tropics and west of the state due to high humidity and unstable conditions. Forecast for Friday A new high moves east through the Great Australian Bight whilst the existing ridge along the east coast weakens further. The surface trough remains slow moving over far southern Queensland. Isolated showers about most central districts, increasing to scattered with afternoon and evening thunderstorms over the southeast. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the tropics, increasing to areas of rain over the southwest ahead of a broad upper trough moving into southeast Australia. Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday The high moves slowly east into the southern Tasman Sea during the weekend directing a NE flow over southern Queensland. This combined with the broad upper trough system over New South Wales is expected to extend areas of cloud and thundery rain from southwest Queensland across southern and central Queensland during the weekend, before clearing from the southwest and southern interior by Monday. Moderate falls are likely, possibly locally heavy. Thundery rain about the Southeast Coast should ease to isolated showers by Monday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to persist over most of the tropics. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Tuesday.
