south of the monsoon trough.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday

falls. Scattered showers, rain areas and isolated thunderstorms over the
remainder of the tropics and central districts. Moderate falls, locally heavy
about the coast and adjacent inland between about Cardwell and Gladstone.
Scattered showers and patchy rain over the Wide Bay and Burnett. Scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms over southern Queensland, with more isolated
showers over the Channel Country. Moderate NW to NE winds over the north and
west. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds elsewhere.

remainder of the tropics and central districts. Moderate falls, locally heavy
about the coast and adjacent inland between about Cardwell and Gladstone.
Scattered showers and patchy rain over the Wide Bay and Burnett. Isolated
showers and thunderstorms over southern Queensland, though fine over the
Warrego. Another cool day over the north of the state under cloud. Moderate NW
to NE winds over the northwest. Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
A high over the Great Australian Bight will move east into the Tasman Sea and
maintain an onshore flow onto the southern Queensland coast with scattered
showers. A surface trough over the Coral Sea is expected to move west onto the
tropical coast and adjacent inland between Cooktown and Gladstone with areas of
rain, isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls. Rain areas and isolated
thunderstorms spreading into the central interior during the day. The monsoon
trough remains over the northwest with rain areas and heavy falls over the Gulf
Country. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the remainder of the
tropics. A cool day over the north of the state under cloud. Fine conditions
over the far southern interior, with isolated showers over the southeast
interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
The high over the Tasman Sea will move slowly eastwards, with the ridge along
the east coast weakening. Isolated showers about the southeast in the onshore
flow. Areas of rain, showers and isolated thunderstorms over the tropics as the
surface trough moves west over the tropical interior. Moderate to heavy falls,
particularly about the coast and adjacent inland between about Cooktown and
Gladstone. Fine over the southwest and southern interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The weak high shifts to the southeast of New Zealand as the monsoon trough
over the northern tropics weakens. The surface trough over the tropical interior
moves to west of the Queensland border and spreads areas of rain and isolated
thunderstorms over northern and most of western Queensland but with rainfall
amounts decreasing. Showers and patchy rain areas over the remainder of the
tropics. Isolated showers about the southern to Capricornia coast, developing
over the southeast interior ahead of a surface trough moving over New South
Wales.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
A new high moves over the Southern Ocean and into the southern Tasman Sea by
the weekend. A new ridge will develop along the east coast, maintaining showers
in the onshore flow over eastern districts. The weak monsoon trough will
contract to far northern Gulf of Carpentaria, with scattered showers and
thunderstorms expected to persist over most of the tropics and far western
Queensland. Mostly fine conditions are expected for the southern interior, with
isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the southeast on Thursday and
Friday due to a surface and upper level trough in the area.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
