Coast and Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts.

Weather Situation
The monsoon trough lies across the Gulf Country to near Cairns and to a low
in the Coral Sea. A high [1027 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge up
the east coast of Queensland. The ridge should weaken over the next few
days.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms will persist about the
northern tropics, with some further moderate to heavy falls likely about the
northeast coast and ranges between Cooktown and Townsville. Fresh to strong SE
winds and showers along the east coast to the south of the monsoon trough, with
isolated showers extending into the eastern interior during the afternoon.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far west. Fine over the southern and
central interior, except from some morning drizzle areas about the ranges in the
southeast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds over inland areas.
Forecast for Wednesday
The monsoon trough will remain over the northern tropics and should continue
to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms with further moderate to heavy
falls likely about the northeast coast and ranges. The high should move over New
Zealand and continue to weaken, but will still maintain a firm ridge with
moderate to fresh SE winds and showers along most of the east coast of
Queensland. Isolated showers will again extend into the eastern interior during
the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the far west. Fine over
the southern and central interior, except for some morning drizzle areas about
the ranges in the southeast.
Forecast for Thursday
The weakened ridge will be maintained along the east coast from a high near
New Zealand. The monsoon trough should remain over the far north of the state,
generating further showers, rain areas and thunderstorms, but falls about the
northeast coast should ease as the onshore flow weakens. Moderate to heavy falls
will be possible about the Peninsula and Gulf Country as the monsoon flow
increases a little. More isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere over the
tropics with scattered showers near the tropical coast. Isolated showers
otherwise about the eastern interior and fine over the central interior.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the far west, increasing in the
southwest as a new trough enters the Channel Country from the southwest.
Forecast for Friday
The surface trough should progress further northeast across the state and is
expected to extend from the northwest of the state into the Maranoa and Warrego
district. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will extend across the west of the
state and into the southern interior through the day. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms will persist about the tropics with the monsoon trough persisting
about the far north of the state. Mostly fine about the central interior with
just very isolated showers. Showers are expected for most of the remainder of
the state in the moist onshore flow.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The high in the Tasman Sea will move to the southeast of New Zealand,
maintaining a weak ridge along the southern and central Queensland coast. The
associated onshore flow should produce further showers along the east coast,
extending into the eastern interior in the afternoon. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms are expected to persist over the northern tropics due to the
monsoon trough. The trough over the southwest will generate isolated showers and
thunderstorms over the southwest and southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
