Warning Summary at issue time

Coast and Herbert and Lower Burdekin districts.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for coastal waters between Cairns and Double
Island Point, excluding Hervey Bay.

Weather Situation
The monsoon trough lies across the Gulf Country to Cairns and to a low in the
Coral Sea and will remain in a similar position tomorrow. A high [1030 hPa] over
the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge up the east coast of Queensland. The ridge
should weaken over the next few days.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms across the northern tropics,
with moderate to heavy falls over the North Tropical Coast and Herbert and Lower
Burdekin districts. Isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere over the
tropics with more widespread moderate falls. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
will also persist about the Channel Country. Mostly fine over the southeastern
quarter of the state with just some isolated showers about the coast and
adjacent inland. Light to moderate SE/NE winds over most of the state, tending
fresh at times about the Channel Country and fresh to strong over the east coast
south of Cardwell.
Forecast for Tuesday
Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms will persist about the
northern tropics, with some further moderate to heavy falls possible about the
northeast coast and ranges between Cooktown and Townsville. The high over the
Tasman Sea will continue to push fresh to strong SE winds and showers along the
east coast to the south of the monsoon trough. The showers should extend into
the eastern interior during the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms
over the far west. Fine over the southern and central interior, except from some
morning drizzle areas about the ranges in the southeast. Light to moderate SE to
NE winds over inland areas.
Forecast for Wednesday
The monsoon trough will remain over the northern tropics and should continue
to produce scattered showers and thunderstorms with further moderate to heavy
falls about the northeast coast and ranges. The high should move over New
Zealand and continue to weaken, but it will be strong enough to maintain a firm
ridge, fresh SE winds and showers along most of the east coast of Queensland.
Showers will again extend into the eastern interior during the afternoon.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms continuing over the far west. Fine over the
southern and central interior, except for some morning drizzle areas about the
ranges in the southeast.
Forecast for Thursday
A weak ridge will be maintained along the east coast from a high near New
Zealand. The monsoon trough should remain over the far north of the state,
generating further showers, rain areas and thunderstorms, but falls about the
northeast coast should ease as the onshore flow weakens. More isolated showers
and thunderstorms elsewhere over the tropics with scattered showers near the
tropical coast. Isolated showers otherwise about the eastern interior and fine
over the central interior. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the far
west, increasing in the southwest late in the day as a new trough approaches
from New South Wales.
Forecast for Friday
The surface trough should progress further northeast across the state and is
expected to extend from the northwest of the state into the Maranoa District.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms will extend across the west of the state and
into the southern interior through the day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms
will persist about the tropics with the monsoon trough persisting about the far
north of the state. Showers are expected for most of the remainder of the state
in the moist onshore flow.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The high in the Tasman Sea will move to the southeast of New Zealand,
maintaining a weak ridge along the southern and central Queensland coast. The
associated onshore flow should produce further showers along the east coast,
extending into the eastern interior in the afternoon. Scattered showers and
thunderstorms are expected to persist over the northern tropics due to the
monsoon trough. The trough over the southwest will generate isolated showers and
thunderstorms over the southwest and southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Tuesday.
