MELBOURNE - Mar 3/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for the Leichhardt, Nicholson and Lower Norman Rivers, Western Queensland Rivers. A Severe Weather Warning is current for the Channel Country. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A stationary active trough occurs over the southern interior. A secondary trough will move through the SE coast overnight. A weak ridge lies along the east coast. Forecast for the rest of Friday Thundery rain areas over the west and southern interior with moderate to heavy falls. Showers and thunderstorms over the remainder of Queensland. Rain areas extending to the SE overnight. Light to moderate SE/NE winds over the tropics. Light to moderate N/NE winds towards the SE coast before a freshening S/SE change overnight. Light to moderate NE/SE winds over the interior. Forecast for Saturday The coastal trough will move north reaching the Capricorn region with strong SE winds and coastal showers to follow. Thundery rain continuing across the southern interior with moderate to heavy falls, clearing early from the south. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the remainder of Queensland. A tropical low may form off the NE tropical coast. Forecast for Sunday The coastal trough will move into the Mackay region with increased showers. Becoming fine over the southern and SE interior with SE winds. Rain areas and thunderstorms contracting west and north as the inland trough moves NW. Showers and thunderstorms remaining over the tropics. Strong SE winds developing to Cardwell on the east coast. The tropical low developing further and approaching the NE tropical coast. Forecast for Monday The tropical low will be very close to the NE coast with strong winds and rain areas. Showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and far west of the state. Fine over the southern, central and SE interior. Showers about the east coast with easing SE winds. Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday By Tuesday, the tropical low will persist near the NE tropical coast and develop further. Thunderstorms now confined to the tropics. Dry over the interior. Little change over the state for Wednesday and Thursday. Rain areas over the NE tropics will depend on tropical low movement. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST Friday.
