Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 3/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood Warnings are current for the Leichhardt, Nicholson and
Lower Norman Rivers, Western Queensland Rivers, and coastal rivers and streams
between Cooktown and Townsville.
A Severe Weather Warning is current for the Channel Country.

Weather Situation
A monsoonal low lies over eastern parts of the Northern Territory. A
stationary surface trough occurs over the southern interior. A weak ridge lies
along the east coast.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Rain areas and thunderstorms from the NW to the southern inland of the state.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in eastern districts, with
thunderstorms becoming scattered about the southeast. Light to moderate SE to NE
winds about the east coast. Light to moderate N'ly winds over the interior,
tending S'ly over southern districts.
Forecast for Friday
Rain areas and thunderstorms from the NW to the SE of the state, with
moderate to heavy falls. Showers and thunderstorms elsewhere, more isolated in
the northeast. Light to moderate NE to NW winds, becoming SW to SE in the far
south. Cool temperatures in the south and west.
Forecast for Saturday
A surface trough will move north along the southern coast, reaching the
Capricorn region with strong SE winds and coastal showers. Thundery rain
continuing across the southern interior with moderate to heavy falls, clearing
early from the south. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the remainder of
QLD.
Forecast for Sunday
The coastal trough reaches the Mackay region with rain areas and
thunderstorms extending into the interior with thunderstorms towards the
southwest. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics. Increasing rain
areas about the NE tropical coast as a tropical low approaches from the Coral
Sea. Strong SE winds remaining south of the coastal trough. Fine over most
southern districts.
Forecast for Monday
Showers and thunderstorms through the northern half of the state, becoming
scattered about the far north and west. Rain areas increasing about the tropical
coastal areas with the monsoon trough developing, and a tropical low in the
area. Isolated showers along the southern east coast.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Showers, thunderstorms and rain areas generally in the tropics. Isolated
showers about the southern east coast. Mostly fine in the interior, with showers
and thunderstorms in the far west.

Friday.
