MELBOURNE - Mar 1/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time Flood Warnings are current for the Herbert, Tully and Murray Rivers and for the remaining coastal rivers and streams between Cooktown and Townsville. Flood warnings are also current for Western Queensland rivers. A Severe Weather Warning is current for abnormally high tides about the Gulf Country coast. A Coastal Waters Wind Warning is current for southern Gulf of Carpentaria waters. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation A weak high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A monsoonal rain depression occurs near the southern Gulf coast. A trough is moving into SW Queensland and through N.S.W. Forecast for the rest of Tuesday Rain areas and isolated thunderstorm over the NW of the state with moderate to heavy falls about the Gulf region. Isolated showers and thunderstorms generally across the tropics and southern tropics, extending into western and southern districts. Some isolated showers and thunderstorms over SE interior. Fine across parts of the southern interior, extending into the southern central highlands and the Burnett region. Light to moderate N/NW winds over the interior shifting S'ly near the southern border. Fresh to strong NE/NW winds about Gulf waters. Light to moderate SE/NE winds about the east coast. Forecast for Wednesday The monsoonal low will move into the N.T but rain areas will persist over the NW with some moderate to heavy falls. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics and extending through central and western districts and near the trough over the southern interior. A small fine zone over the eastern interior. Showers and thunderstorms increasing over the SE region. Remaining hot over the southern interior north of the trough. Forecast for Thursday Rain areas easing over the NW of the state. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the remainder of QLD. Thunderstorm activity increasing near the trough over the southern interior and tending to rain areas overnight. Fine in the far south of the state. Thunderstorm activity continuing to increase over the SE region. Forecast for Friday The surface trough remains stationary over the southern interior but moves through the SE coast with cooler SE winds. Rain areas and thunderstorms along the trough over the interior. Maximum thunderstorm and rainfall activity over the SE region. Decreasing thunderstorms about the NE tropical coast. Forecast for Saturday The coastal trough will move into the Capricorn region with thunderstorm activity clearing northwards. Showers about the east coast south of the change with cooler, strong SE winds. Little change in the tropics. Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday By Sunday, thunderstorms confined to the tropics as the coastal trough moves into the Bowen region. Fine over southern QLD and thunderstorms continuing over western districts. Showers about the east coast with strong SE winds. By Monday, the coastal trough moves north into the monsoonal trough and develops a tropical low with increasing rain areas over the NE tropics. Little change over the remainder of the state.
