Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 27/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Flood Warning is current for Western Queensland Rivers and
for coastal rivers and streams between Cooktown and Cardwell.

Weather Situation
A weak high lies over the Tasman Sea and extends a ridge along the tropical
east Queensland coast. An active monsoon trough lies over far northern
Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms over the northern tropics
with moderate to locally heavy falls. Isolated showers about the Central Coast
and northern Capricornia. Mostly fine over southern Queensland with just very
isolated afternoon showers about the southeast interior. Light to moderate SE to
NE winds along the tropical coast. Mostly moderate NW to NE winds elsewhere,
fresher over the northwest.
Forecast for Monday
A weak ridge should remain along the east Queensland coast while the monsoon
trough persists over the northern tropics. Scattered showers, rain areas and
thunderstorms continuing over the northern tropics and northwest parts of the
state with moderate to locally heavy falls. Isolated showers about the Central
Coast and northern Capricornia. Continuing fine and very warm to hot over
southern Queensland, apart from some isolated afternoon showers about the
southeast interior.
Forecast for Tuesday
A new high over Great Australian Bight should push a trough northwards from
NSW, nearing the southern state border late in the day. The monsoon trough
should remain strong as it moves southwards over the Gulf Country. Scattered
showers, rain areas and thunderstorms continuing over the northern tropics and
northwest parts of the state with moderate to locally heavy falls, including
northern parts of the Northwest District. Scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms over the southern tropics, with isolated showers about the
tropical coast south of about Mackay. Generally hot over southern Queensland
with showers and isolated thunderstorms developing about the far southern and
southeast interior districts.
Forecast for Wednesday
The monsoon trough should remain active over the northwest of the state,
while an inland trough lies through the southern interior. Remaining wet in the
north of the state with scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with
moderate to locally heavy falls, but mainly about the northwest.  Warm to hot
over the southern half of the state with isolated showers and storms, tending
more widespread about the southern interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The monsoon trough should remain active and continue to produce scattered
showers, areas of rain and at least isolated thunderstorms over the northwest
district.  The northeast districts should see a gradual easing in rainfall
totals, but there is still likely to experience scattered showers and isolated
storms.  The inland trough should persist over the southern interior, and it,
along with an approaching upper trough, will cause showers and storms to
increase over the southern districts.  More isolated showers are expected about
the Central Highlands and Central Coast districts.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The high should enter the Tasman Sea while a deep monsoon trough persists
over the northern tropics. Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms with
moderate to locally heavy falls continuing over the tropics [mainly in the
northwest].  Isolated showers about the central interior, tending to more
widespread showers and thunderstorms about southern districts. A cool change
should pass over the southeast during Saturday, and will extend northwards to
the Capricornia area by the end of the Weekend.

Monday.
