Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 25/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Severe Weather Warning is current for flash flooding in the
North Tropical Coast and Tablelands district.
A Flood Warning is current for Western Queensland Rivers and for Coastal Rivers
from Cooktown to Townsville.

Weather Situation
A weakening high over southeast Australia is moving slowly east, and extends
a ridge along most of the east Queensland coast. The monsoon trough lies over
far northern Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Scattered showers, areas of rain and thunderstorms over the northern tropics;
heavier about the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands with moderate to locally
heavy falls particularly during the morning. Isolated showers and drizzle along
the remaining east coast and adjacent inland, scattered along the Central Coast
in the morning. Fine over the southern and central interior. Moderate to locally
fresh SE winds along the central coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds
elsewhere, tending NE to NW over the far northern tropics.
Forecast for Saturday
The weak high persists over the Tasman Sea while the deepening monsoon trough
moves a little further south over the northern tropics. Scattered showers, rain
areas and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf Country with
moderate to locally heavy falls. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms
over the remainder of the northern tropics and the northwest. Isolated showers
along the remaining east coast and adjacent inland, scattered along the Central
Coast in the morning. Fine over the southern and central interior. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds, tending NE to NW over the far northern tropics and far
southern Queensland. A warmer day in the south.
Forecast for Sunday
The weak high moves to the east of New Zealand while the deep monsoon trough
persists over the northern tropics. Scattered showers, rain areas and
thunderstorms over the northern tropics and northwest parts of the state with
moderate to locally heavy falls. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms
over the southern tropics, though only isolated showers about the Central Coast
and northern Capricornia. Fine and very warm to hot over southern Queensland.
Light to moderate SE to NE winds along the tropical coast. Mostly moderate NW to
NE winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Monday
The weak high well east of New Zealand extends a weak ridge along the
tropical east Queensland coast while the deep monsoon trough persists over the
northern tropics. Scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms continuing
over the northern tropics and northwest parts of the state with moderate to
locally heavy falls. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the
southern tropics, though still only isolated showers about the Central Coast and
northern Capricornia. Continuing fine and very warm to hot over southern
Queensland, apart from some isolated afternoon showers about the southeast
interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds along the tropical coast. Mostly
moderate NW to NE winds elsewhere.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
A new high is expected to move east across the Great Australian Bight and
into Southeast Australia by Tuesday before weakening, while the deep monsoon
trough will persist over the northern tropics. Scattered showers, rain areas and
thunderstorms continuing over the northern tropics, spreading over the far west
of the state ahead of a new trough moving into far western and southern
Queensland during late Tuesday and Wednesday. The band of showers, storms and
rain areas is likely to move across the southwest and into the southern interior
on Thursday. Continuing very warm to hot over southern Queensland ahead of the
trough.

Friday.
