Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 22/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Gale Warning cancelled south of Gladstone, including Hervey
Bay.
A Strong Wind Warning is current for waters between Cardwell and Point Danger.
Flood warning for Western Queensland Rivers.

Weather Situation
A high in the Great Australian Bight extends a ridge along the east coast. A
surface trough extends from the northwest of the state into the eastern
interior. The monsoon trough occurs over the northern Gulf.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
The high over southern Australia weakens and this will ease the winds a
little about the east coast.  Thunderstorms and showers generally over the NW of
the state and over Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers about the east coast.
Dry over the interior and southern districts, a very cool morning over the
southern Darling Downs.
Forecast for Thursday
SE winds will continue to ease about the east coast with strong winds
contracting north to Gladstone. Isolated showers near the east coast, decreasing
on the SE coast. Thunderstorms confined to the Gulf and Cape York region and
increasing with rain areas. Dry over the interior, another very cool morning
over the southern Darling Downs.
Forecast for Friday
Rain areas and thunderstorms about Gulf region otherwise showers and
thunderstorms generally over the tropics. Isolated showers about the east coast,
dry over the interior.
Forecast for Saturday
Rain areas and thunderstorms continuing about the Gulf coast with moderate to
heavy falls. Showers and thunderstorms generally over the tropics and northwest.
Isolated showers about the central coast, dry over the interior and fine over
the SE.
Outlook for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Mostly stable conditions about southern Queensland for Sunday and Monday with
rain areas and thunderstorms across the tropics. Rather hot over the interior
ahead of the next approaching trough with N/NW winds. Eventually   this trough
will develop thunderstorms across southern and SE QLD for Tuesday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Wednesday.
