Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 21/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Gale Warning has been issued for waters south of Gladstone,
including Hervey and Moreton Bays.
A Strong Wind Warning has been issued for waters between Mackay and Gladstone.

AND ADJACENT INLAND CATCHMENTS

Weather Situation
A high in the Great Australian Bight, 1029 hPa, is pushing a trough north
along the central Queensland coast with freshening winds. A surface trough
extends from the northwest of the state to the coastal trough over eastern QLD.
The monsoon trough extends from the Gulf of Carpentaria to the northern parts of
the Coral Sea.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and extending SE into
the Central Highlands and northern Maranoa district. Showers generally over the
Wide Bay, Burnett and SE coast. Fine across southern and SW QLD. Cooler
temperatures developing over most of the SE region.  Strong and gusty SE winds
about the east coast, developing south of Mackay. Light to moderate SE/NE winds
over the tropics. Moderate SE winds developing over the interior.
Forecast for Wednesday
The high will enter western Victoria maintaining strong SE winds about most
of the QLD coast. Showers and thunderstorms over the tropics and NW district,
extending south into the northern Channel Country in the afternoon. Isolated
showers generally about eastern coastal districts. Dry and cooler across the
southern interior
Forecast for Thursday
The southern high weakens and this will contract the strong winds about the
QLD coast from Cairns to Gladstone. Thunderstorms contracting to the NW and Cape
York Peninsular. Isolated showers about the east coast. Dry over the interior
and southern districts.
Forecast for Friday
SE winds will continue to weaken about the east coast with an end to the
strong wind warnings. Once again isolated showers near the east coast,
decreasing on the SE coast. Thunderstorms confined to the Gulf and Cape York
region. Dry over the interior.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
By Saturday, the monsoonal trough dips further south over the western Gulf
waters with increasing rain areas and thunderstorms. Little change elsewhere in
the state, almost fine in the SE. Rain areas continuing over the western Gulf
associated with a monsoonal low. Fine over southern half of the state. Little
change for Monday.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
