MELBOURNE - Feb 18/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high near New Zealand extends a ridge to the northern New South Wales coast, and to the south of Tasmania while a broad low pressure trough lies over the western border with a low to the south of Adelaide. The trough will move eastwards on Saturday with the low likely to move south of Tasmania followed by a vigorous cold front and upper trough on Sunday. A trough should remain over the northeast on Monday. A high will move over the Bight on Sunday behind the front. This high is expected to be slow-moving and remain west of Tasmania for most of the coming week bringing dry and mostly sunny conditions to most of the state. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayRain areas with possible thunderstorms across the south, grading to isolated showers and thunderstorms about western and central parts. Fine in the north apart from the chance of showers on the far north coast. Southeast to northeast winds near the coast. Northeast to northwest winds, with a cooler southwest change in the south, fresh to strong about the central and southern ranges, and reaching gale force at times about the Alpine peaks.Sunday 20 FebruaryFine in the northeast and in the far southwest. Showers elsewhere, clearing from the southern inland and ranges early in the day. Northwest to northeast winds in the northeast, with a cooler southwest change extending through the remainder.Monday 21 FebruaryIsolated showers along the southern and central coast and adjacent east ranges. Showers or rain areas and possible thunderstorms over the northeast. Mostly fine and sunny over the remainder . Moderate to fresh south to southeast winds.Tuesday 22 FebruaryScattered showers along the northern coast and ranges. Isolated showers about the central and southern coast, clearing from the south.
