Fewer Sheep and Lambs on HandWASHINGTON - Feb 17/11 - SNS -- There ware a total of 6.34 million sheep and lambs on farms and ranches in Canada and United States as of January 1, according to a joint report from the USDA and Statistics Canada. This is down 1% from the 6.43 million on January 1, 2010. Breeding sheep, at 4.74 million head, were down 2% from a year ago and market sheep and lambs, at 1.61 million head, were down 1% from last year. All sheep and lambs in the United States as of January 1, 2011, totaled 5.53 million head, 2% below the 5.62 million head on January 1, 2010. Breeding sheep, at 4.12 million head, were down 2% from a year ago, while market sheep and lambs, at 1.42 million head, were down 1% from last year.
