Modest Decline in Cattle Inventory
WASHINGTON - Feb 17/11 - SNS -- There ware a total of 150 million cattle and calves in hand in Canada and United States as of January 1, according to a joint report from the USDA and Statistics Canada.
This is down 2% from the 106.8 million on January 1, 2010. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 45.3 million head, were down 1% from a year ago.
All cattle and calves in the United States as of January 1, 2011, totaled 92.6 million head, 1% below the 93.9 million on January 1, 2010. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 40.0 million head, were down 1% from a year ago.
