MELBOURNE - Feb 17/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high near New Zealand extends a ridge to the northern New South Wales coast, while a broad low pressure trough lies over the New South Wales inland. Another high is currently south of the Bight, and will move to the Tasman Sea by Saturday. During this time the trough is expected to move towards northeast New South Wales and weaken, while a second trough deepens near the western border. This trough is forecast to move across much of the state on Saturday, ahead of a vigorous cold front on Sunday. Monday will see the trough lingering inland while a ridge strengthens along NSW coast. Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers about the central and southern parts and in the far northeast. Isolated thunderstorms over the central and southern ranges and slopes. Fine elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds near the coast. Northeast to northwest winds inland.Saturday 19 FebruaryRain areas with possible thunderstorms across the south, grading to isolated showers about central districts. Fine in the north apart from the chance of showers on the far north coast. Southeast to northeast winds near the coast. Northeast to northwest winds, with a southwest change in the south.Sunday 20 FebruaryFine in the northeast. Showers or rain areas elsewhere, clearing from the southwest during the day. Northwest to northeast winds in the northeast, with a cooler west to southwest change extending through the remainder.Monday 21 FebruaryFine over the southern inland. Showers or rain areas elsewhere, generally contracting to the northeast.
