MELBOURNE - Feb 17/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough over eastern Victoria will move away to the east tonight. A high pressure ridge will pass south of Victoria during Friday. Another low pressure trough will move over South Australia on Friday then deepen as it crosses Victoria on Saturday. A cold front will move from the Bight to cross Victoria on Sunday, then a high pressure system will approach slowly from the west on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly near and south of the ranges. Humid with light to moderate southerly winds.Friday 18 FebruaryIsolated showers in the south during the morning. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing about the eastern ranges during the afternoon. Areas of rain developing in the west during the afternoon and reaching central areas at night. Light to moderate northeast to southeast winds, freshening near the coast.Fire Danger - Low to moderate.Saturday 19 FebruaryWidespread rain with locally heavy falls, particularly about the ranges, easing to isolated showers from the west. Isolated thunderstorms in the northeast. Moderate to fresh northerly winds tending westerly from the west.Sunday 20 FebruaryAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms in the far east clearing during the day. Isolated showers elsewhere near and south of the divide, scattered near the coast. A generally mild day with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.Monday 21 FebruaryFine apart from isolated showers in the south.
