MELBOURNE - Feb 16/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high near New Zealand extends a ridge along the New South Wales coast. A low pressure trough lies over the NSW inland and a high is in the western Bight. These systems are moving eastwards. The high in the west is expected to move to the southeast of Tasmania by late Friday with the trough contracting to the northeast of the state. During the weekend a significant cold front will to move across the state. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayMostly fine in the southwest and about the Northwest Slopes and Plains. Showers and thunderstorms over the remainder. Northeast to northwest winds in the northeast. Southwest to southeast winds in the southwest.Friday 18 FebruaryIsolated showers about the coast and ranges, chiefly in the south. Fine and mostly sunny in the northeast and about the northeastern inland. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing in the far southwest. Mostly fine over the remaining inland, with some isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms possible Southeast to northeast winds.Saturday 19 FebruaryScattered showers or rain areas in the south, more isolated in central parts. Chance thunderstorms in the southwest. Fine in the north apart from isolated showers on the far north coast. Northwest to northeasterly winds.Sunday 20 FebruaryFine in the northeast. Showers clearing from the southwest and contracting northeastwards to central parts.
