and Western Queensland Rivers.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high southeast of New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the southern
and central coasts of Queensland. A near-stationary upper level low lies over
the Coral Sea. A surface trough lies over far southwestern parts of the
state.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Rain areas and thunderstorms about the northern Peninsula. Scattered showers
and isolated thunderstorms about the remaining northeast tropics, tending to
isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere in the northern half of the state.
Isolated showers in the east, with a possible thunderstorm about the southeast
inland. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times near the coast. A gusty
SW to SE change in the far southwest.
Forecast for Sunday
Rain areas and thunderstorms about the northern Peninsula. Scattered showers
and isolated thunderstorms about the remaining tropics and eastern districts,
extending inland in the south to about Cunnamulla. Light to moderate SE to E
winds, fresh at times near the coast and in the southwest.
Forecast for Monday
A slow moving upper level low in the Coral Sea will cause showers and storms
to increase about the central and southeast parts, possibly spreading to
thundery rain. A new surface high pushes into the Tasman Sea late in the day,
increasing the onshore winds over southern Queensland. Showers becoming a little
more isolated about the northeast coast as the onshore flow weakens slightly.
Isolated showers and storms elsewhere over the tropical north. A surface trough
in the west will produce scattered showers and isolated storms about the
southern interior, tending more isolated about the central west.
Forecast for Tuesday
The upper level low will remain slow moving but slightly to the west, pushing
scattered showers and thunderstorms toward the central coastal areas, and
possibly extending towards the southeast coast also. Scattered showers through
remaining eastern districts, with isolated afternoon thunderstorms. Unstable
conditions in the north and southwest with showers and thunderstorms expected
also.
Forecast for Wednesday
The upper level low will move slowly northwest, increasing the showers and
thunderstorms in the central and tropical coastal areas. The ridge along the
east coast will stabilise conditions about the southeast, with only isolated
showers expected. Instability increasing in the west with showers and
thunderstorms in the afternoon, mostly in the south. Showers and thunderstorms
continuing in the far north.
Outlook for Thursday, Friday and Saturday
The ridge along the east coast begins to weaken, with showers decreasing
about the east coast. Showers and thunderstorms in the north. Mostly fine
through southern areas of the state with more stable conditions expected.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Sunday.
