MELBOURNE - Feb 10/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
A Severe Weather Warning is current for parts of the North
Tropical Coast district.
Flood warnings are current for the Dawson, Balonne, Nicholson, Flinders and
Norman Rivers.
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A high [1028 hPa] over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east coast. A
trough over Cape York Peninsula is moving gradually to the west.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Rain areas, showers and isolated thunderstorms with moderate to heavy falls
about parts of the North Tropical Coast [see Severe Weather Warning]. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms over the remainder of the coastal districts within the
tropics, and also in the far west of the state. Fine over the remainder except
for some isolated showers about the southeast coast and central interior.
Moderate SE to NE winds on the east coast, tending light to moderate inland.
Forecast for Friday
The high will move to the south of New Zealand, with a weakening ridge along
the east Queensland coast. Mostly fine conditions are expected over the
southern, southeast and central interior, with just a few isolated showers along
the southeast and Capricornia coasts due to moist onshore winds. The trough over
the northern tropics will shift west into the Gulf of Carpentaria with rain
areas, showers and isolated thunderstorms and moderate to heavy falls continuing
about the far northern tropics and extending over Cape York Peninsula. Scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms over the southern tropics and the Central
Coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The ridge along the east coast will continue to weaken with isolated showers
along the southern east coast and fine conditions over the southern interior.
Mostly fine with just a few isolated showers through remaining central parts.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the southern tropics. Deep,
moist E'ly winds will maintain rain areas, showers and thunderstorms with
possible heavy falls over Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf Country.
Forecast for Sunday
A weak ridge and isolated showers should persist over the southeast coast. A
surface trough will bring just a few isolated showers or storms to the far
southwest, though conditions should be mainly fine within the region. Scattered
showers and thunderstorms in the tropics and northwest with isolated
thunderstorms extending to inland parts of the Capricornia district as an upper
trough develops over the Coral Sea. Mostly fine with isolated showers for
remaining central parts.
Forecast for Monday
The upper trough in the Coral Sea should encourage showers to increase about
the southeast and central coastal coasts, while more humid easterly winds
flowing out of a new high in the Tasman sea will also cause showers to increase
about the southeast interior. Mainly fine about the central districts, isolated
showers about the northern tropics, and rain easing about the far northern
tropics.
Outlook for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
The high should remain in the Tasman Sea and continue extending more humid
easterly winds over southern Queensland and further increases in shower activity
about the southeast coast district early in the outlook period. A weak surface
trough should also extend from the southern interior through the central parts
of the state and up to the northwest district early in the outlook period,
producing scattered showers and isolated storms near and to the east of the
trough. Isolated showers over the tropics, tending scattered with possible
storms about the Gulf Country and Cape York Peninsula.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Friday.
