Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 9/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
Flood warnings are current for the Dawson, Condamine-Balonne,
Bulloo, Georgina, Warrego and Gulf rivers.

Weather Situation
A high [1027 hPa] over the southwest Tasman Sea extends a weakening ridge
along the east coast. A trough in the northern Coral Sea is moving west toward
Cape York Peninsula.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Rain areas, showers and isolated thunderstorms with moderate to heavy falls
developing in the northern tropics. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the
far west, easing to scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the
southern tropics and the Central Coast. Isolated showers in the southeast and
fine over the southeast interior. Mostly fine with very isolated showers for
remaining inland parts. Moderate SE to E winds on the east coast, tending light
to moderate inland.
Forecast for Friday
The high will move to the south of New Zealand, with a weakening ridge along
the east Queensland coast. Mostly fine conditions are expected over the southern
and central interior, with isolated showers along the southeast and Capricornia
coasts due to moist onshore winds. Fine over the southeast interior. The trough
over the northern tropics will shift west into the Gulf of Carpentaria with rain
areas, showers and isolated thunderstorms and moderate to heavy falls continuing
in this region. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the southern
tropics and the Central Coast.
Forecast for Saturday
The ridge along the east coast will continue to weaken with isolated showers
along the southern east coast and fine conditions over the southern interior.
Mostly fine with isolated showers through remaining central parts. Scattered
showers and isolated thunderstorms about the southern tropics and developing
late in the far southwest as a new trough approaches. Deep, moist E'ly winds
will maintain rain areas, showers and thunderstorms with possible heavy falls
over Cape York Peninsula.
Forecast for Sunday
A weak ridge and isolated showers persist over the southeast coast. A surface
trough will bring isolated showers and thunderstorms to southern and southwest
districts. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the tropics and northwest with
isolated thunderstorms extending to the Capricornia district as an upper trough
develops over the Coral Sea. Mostly fine with isolated showers for remaining
central parts.
Outlook for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
A new high moves over southeast Australia and strengthens a ridge and SE
winds over southeast Queensland from Monday. Scattered showers in the southeast,
tending isolated through central inland parts. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms in the south, southwest and about the Central Coast, tending
scattered in the tropics and northwest. On Tuesday and Wednesday scattered
showers to continue about the southern east coast. An upper trough will approach
western Queensland by mid week and trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms
in southern and western districts. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms
to remain generally about the tropics and isolated showers through central
parts.
