MELBOURNE - Feb 4/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A slow-moving high pressure system over the central Tasman Sea extends a ridge to the New South Wales north coast while a broad trough is over far southwestern New South Wales. On Saturday a cold front is expected to bring a significant change to the south and southwestern parts of the state, and extend to most of the remainder on Sunday. A high in the Bight follows the front. Forecast for the rest of FridayPartly cloudy in the northeast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the south tending scattered in the southeast and far southwest. Northwest to northeast winds.Saturday 5 February Partly cloudy in the northeast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms elsewhere. Showers tending scattered in the south and southwest and more widespread in the far south with possible local heavy falls. Hot to very hot in most parts, with the exception of the far south. Northwest to northeast winds. A Total Fire Ban has been issued for the Monaro Alpine, Central Ranges, Greater Sydney Region and Greater Hunter Fire Areas. A Fire Weather Warning has been issued for the Snowy Mountains district. Fire Danger - Severe on parts of the ranges and coast. Very High in the northern inland.Sunday 6 FebruaryIsolated showers through most parts, tending scattered on the central and southern ranges and in the far southwest. Isolated thunderstorms in northern and eastern parts. Hot in the northeast. North to northwest winds ahead of a cooler south to southwesterly change extending into the northeast by late evening.Monday 7 FebruaryFine in the southwest, Isolated showers elsewhere tending scattered in the northeast. The chance of thunderstorms in the northeast inland. South to southeasterly winds.Tuesday 8 FebruaryFine in most western districts. Scattered showers in the northeast, tending isolated further south and west. Isolated showers also on the central and southern ranges and possibly the adjacent coast.
