MELBOURNE - Feb 1/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure ridge south of the Bight extends across Tasmania, while a low pressure trough over the northeast will drift southwestwards across central Victoria today. The trough will deepen over southern NSW and northeast Victoria early on Thursday as the next front moves across Bass Strait. A trough will linger over northern Victoria on Friday while a stronger cold front will approach western Victoria later on Friday, crossing the State on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayCloudy areas in the south at first with the chance of some light drizzle, clearing to a fine and mainly sunny morning. Cloud increasing from the north with isolated showers and thunderstorms developing by midday, extending through central and southern areas during the afternoon and becoming widespread in the northeast. Local heavy falls and possible flash flooding with thunderstorms in the northeast. Fine in the southwest. Warm to hot and becoming humid with light southeasterly winds tending northerly over the northeast and central areas. Afternoon coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger - Locally high.Thursday 3 FebruaryScattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly affecting central and eastern districts, tending to rain areas in the northeast. Local heavy falls possible in the northeast. Warm to hot and humid. Light to moderate north to northwest winds inland and southerly winds extending through the west and south.Friday 4 FebruaryWidespread showers and local thunderstorms over most of the state, tending to rain areas in the north. Local heavy falls in the northeast. Warm to hot and humid with light northerly winds and afternoon seabreezes.Saturday 5 FebruaryRain and isolated thunderstorms, contracting to the north and east later in the day. Further moderate to heavy falls likely.
