MELBOURNE - Jan 30/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea is drifting slowly eastwards. A trough of low pressure moving along the coast will weaken overnight. A ridge of high pressure will pass just south of the State on Monday then another trough of low pressure will cross Victoria on Tuesday. The trough will contract to southern and western Victoria on Wednesday and Thursday. Forecast for the rest of SundayFine tonight. Generally light northerly winds inland. Milder southwest to southerly winds along the west and central coasts extending to adjacent land areas this evening before weakening.Monday 31 JanuaryFine apart from isolated showers near the southwest coast. Hot to very hot inland with moderate to locally fresh north to northwesterly winds. A little milder along the coastal fringe with light winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Fire Danger - Very highTuesday 1 FebruaryFine apart from isolated showers near the southwest coast. Hot north to northwest winds ahead of a fresh southwest change gradually extending from the southwest. Milder in the south following the change, but only marginally cooler in the north.Wednesday 2 FebruaryIsolated showers near the southwest coast. Local afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms over central and eastern districts during the afternoon. Warm to hot and becoming humid with light northerly winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Thursday 3 FebruaryWarm to hot and humid with showers and thunderstorms, mainly affecting central and eastern districts and spreading to rain areas over the northeast. Local heavy falls possible.
