MELBOURNE - Jan 25/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A stationary high pressure system over the eastern Tasman Sea extends a ridge to the New South Wales north coast, while a trough lies over the southern inland. This trough will shift towards central parts of the state today as a weak cold front passes to the south, but will remain in the region until Thursday when it is expected to move further northeast as high strengthens south of the Bight. Despite the continuing humid conditions over eastern New South Wales, the presence of very warm air in the upper atmosphere will make widespread rainfall unlikely during the next few days. A stronger front and southerly change is expected to affect the state during Friday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayPossible isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms in the east, and in the central west. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Hot to very hot inland, very warm and humid near the coast. Northwest to northeast winds, fresh to strong along the north coast and about the southern ranges, ahead of a southerly change in the west and south. Severe fire danger for the Southern Slopes. Very high fire danger for Greater Hunter, Greater Sydney, Illawarra Shoalhaven, Monaro Alpine, ACT, Central and Southern Ranges, Northern Slopes, North Western.Thursday 27 JanuaryPossible isolated showers on the southern half of the coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms across the northeast, chiefly afternoon. Fine elsewhere. Hot to very hot for the northern inland. North to northeast winds in the northeast, and southerly winds elsewhere.Friday 28 JanuaryIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms in the northeast. Isolated showers along the remainder of the coast. Fine elsewhere. Milder south to southeast winds gradually extending throughout.Saturday 29 JanuaryIsolated showers about the north coast and adjacent ranges. Fine elsewhere. Southeast to northeast winds. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Wednesday.Product IDN10031 Weather & Warnings Australia Warnings Summary External Territories Major Cities Weather Maps Rainfall & River Conditions New South Wales Warnings Summary Forecasts Sydney Forecast NSW Forecast Areas Map Observations Sydney Observations All NSW Observations Rainfall & River Conditions Victoria Warnings Summary Forecasts Melbourne Metro Forecast Vic.
