MELBOURNE - Jan 24/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary at issue time
For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak monsoon trough extends from Cape York Peninsula into the Coral Sea. A
high over the southern Tasman Sea extends a weak ridge of high pressure over the
east coast of QLD.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Fine over almost all of the state, except for some isolated afternoon showers
and storms over Cape York Peninsula, some isolated showers over the Gulf
Country, and some very isolated showers about the north tropical coast. Hot in
the interior with light to moderate NW to NE winds. Mostly light SE to NE winds
elsewhere.
Forecast for Wednesday
The monsoon trough should remain over Cape York Peninsula, with isolated
showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula and the Gulf Country. Mostly
fine along the north tropical coast with just the chance of some very isolated
showers. Fine over the remainder of the state under the influence of the ridge
of high pressure. Temperatures will continue to be above the January average
over western districts and the southeastern interior, particularly during the
day.
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms should continue through the Gulf Country
and western parts of the Peninsula. Isolated showers are also expected about the
northeast coast. A weak trough over the southern interior should increase
instability with possible isolated afternoon showers or thunderstorms near the
southern inland border. Fine conditions elsewhere under the influence of the
ridge. Daytime temperatures will remain above average over western districts and
the southeastern interior.
Forecast for Friday
A surface trough should extend over inland Queensland and cause isolated
afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the central and southeast interior.
Isolated showers and storms over the Gulf Country and Cape York Peninsula, and
some isolated showers over the northeast coast. Mostly fine elsewhere with just
the chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms over the southwest. Hot daytime
temperatures over southern and western Queensland.
Outlook for Saturday, Sunday and Monday
The inland trough should weaken and contract west over the weekend. Showers
with possible local thunder could increase over eastern and northern parts of
the state as winds freshen along the east coast due to a low or tropical cyclone
in the northern reaches of the Coral Sea.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Tuesday.
