Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 23/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
Tropical Cyclone Anthony lies well off the northeast Queensland coast, and is
continuing to move ESE away from the coast. The monsoon trough occurs over the
northern tropics and connects with TC Anthony. A ridge of high pressure extends
from a high over southern Tasman Sea along the Queensland coast.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula, decreasing
towards the south. Dry over the interior with light winds. Rather hot over
Western districts in the afternoon. Isolated showers remaining near the east
coast with moderate to fresh SE winds. Light to moderate SW to NW winds across
the tropics.
Forecast for Tuesday
Little change in the pattern from Monday with the monsoon trough remaining in
the far north. Showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula, decreasing
towards the south. Dry and continuing hot over the interior as NW winds persist
over western districts ahead of a very slow moving trough. Fine along the SE and
Capricorn coasts, isolated coastal showers further north.
Forecast for Wednesday
An upper level low will move through the southern tropics from the east with
increasing instability. This will lead to increased showers and thunderstorms
over tropics generally. Isolated showers about most of the east coast north of
St Lawrence. Remaining  hot and dry over the interior.
Forecast for Thursday
The upper level low moves into the Gulf waters and this leads to decreasing
showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula. Meanwhile showers increase
about the east coast as SE winds freshen. Generally dry and hot over the
interior however an approaching surface trough from the Channel Country may
generate some late showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
By Friday, little change over the tropics however the surface trough over the
southern interior reaches near the western Darling Downs and may generate
further showers and thunderstorms later in the day over the SE and southern
interior. Saturday, the previous tropical cyclone moves back towards the NW as a
weaker system with rain areas and isolated thunderstorms increasing off the NE
tropical coast. Showers also increase about the central coast. Afternoon
thunderstorms over the SE region associated with the surface trough. By Sunday,
The tropical low now getting close to the southern tropical coast with
increasing rain periods and thunderstorms. Rain areas also extending south and
west across eastern districts.

Monday.
