Weather Situation
Tropical Cyclone Anthony lies well off the northeast Queensland coast, and is
continuing to move east away from the coast while slowly intensifying. The
monsoon trough lies over the northern tropics to TC Anthony. A ridge of high
pressure occurs along the Queensland coast from a high over southern Tasman Sea.
Forecast for the rest of Sunday
Monsoonal rain areas and thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula with
some moderate falls. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the southern
tropics. Isolated showers along the east coast. Fine elsewhere. Light to
moderate SW to NW winds in the north. Light to moderate E to SE winds elsewhere,
fresh about the east coast.

Monsoonal rain areas and thunderstorms over far northern Cape York Peninsula
and some moderate falls. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the remaining
northern tropics. Isolated showers along most of the east coast. Very warm to
hot in the west. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times along the
coast. Light to moderate SW to NW winds in the far north.
Forecast for Tuesday
The monsoon trough remains in the far north. Showers and thunderstorms over
Cape York Peninsula, decreasing towards the south. Dry and continuing hot over
the interior as NW winds persist over western districts ahead of a very slow
moving trough. Fine along the SE and Capricorn coasts, isolated coastal showers
further north.
Forecast for Wednesday
The monsoon trough remains in the far north. Showers and thunderstorms in the
north, and extending to the northwest with increasing instability. Isolated
showers about most of the east coast and extending to the adjacent inland in the
central areas. Fine and very warm to hot in the west.
Forecast for Thursday
Ridge begins to strengthen slightly along the east coast, with isolated
showers expected along the east coast. A trough enters the southwest of the
state, though a dry change. Showers and thunderstorms about the northern tropics
and into the northwest of the state. Isolated showers about the southern
tropical interior.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Remaining unstable in the tropics, with increasing instability about the
central regions over the weekend. Generally showers and thunderstorms in the
north and central coast regions, with showers returning to the southern east
coast. Instability increasing over the weekend inland, so isolated afternoon
showers and thunderstorms are likely.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST
Monday.
