MELBOURNE - Jan 23/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Warning Summary at issue time For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/qld Weather Situation Tropical Cyclone Anthony lies well off the northeast Queensland coast, and is continuing to move east away from the coast while slowly intensifying. The monsoon trough lies over the northern tropics to TC Anthony. A ridge of high pressure occurs along the Queensland coast from a high over southern Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of Sunday Monsoonal rain areas and thunderstorms over northern Cape York Peninsula with some moderate falls. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the southern tropics. Isolated showers along the east coast. Fine elsewhere. Light to moderate SW to NW winds in the north. Light to moderate E to SE winds elsewhere, fresh about the east coast. Forecast for Monday Monsoonal rain areas and thunderstorms over far northern Cape York Peninsula and some moderate falls. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the remaining northern tropics. Isolated showers along most of the east coast. Very warm to hot in the west. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, fresh at times along the coast. Light to moderate SW to NW winds in the far north. Forecast for Tuesday The monsoon trough remains in the far north. Showers and thunderstorms over Cape York Peninsula, decreasing towards the south. Dry and continuing hot over the interior as NW winds persist over western districts ahead of a very slow moving trough. Fine along the SE and Capricorn coasts, isolated coastal showers further north. Forecast for Wednesday The monsoon trough remains in the far north. Showers and thunderstorms in the north, and extending to the northwest with increasing instability. Isolated showers about most of the east coast and extending to the adjacent inland in the central areas. Fine and very warm to hot in the west. Forecast for Thursday Ridge begins to strengthen slightly along the east coast, with isolated showers expected along the east coast. A trough enters the southwest of the state, though a dry change. Showers and thunderstorms about the northern tropics and into the northwest of the state. Isolated showers about the southern tropical interior. Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday Remaining unstable in the tropics, with increasing instability about the central regions over the weekend. Generally showers and thunderstorms in the north and central coast regions, with showers returning to the southern east coast. Instability increasing over the weekend inland, so isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:45 am EST Monday.
