MELBOURNE - Jan 19/11 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak cold front will cross southern Victoria on Friday. A small high pressure system will then move from Bight waters to pass south of Tasmania on Saturday night. A trough of low pressure will approach western Victoria on Sunday and will link to a cold front and cross the State rapidly on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayFine and generally clear. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds developing.Friday 21 JanuaryIsolated showers developing over the southwest in the morning and extending eastwards during the day, although remaining fine in the northwest. Showers becoming scattered about the eastern ranges in the afternoon and isolated thunderstorms in the east during the afternoon. Warm north to northwesterly winds, freshening in the south ahead of a cooler gusty southerly change extending from the southwest during the day.Fire Danger - Low to moderate grading to high in Gippsland.Saturday 22 JanuaryIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the east. Warm in the north, milder in the south. Light to moderate south to southeasterly winds becoming fresh east to southeasterly near the coast.Sunday 23 JanuaryIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the east. Warm inland with light to moderate southeasterly winds, milder near the coast with afternoon seabreezes.Monday 24 January Isolated showers developing, mainly on and south of the divide and becoming scattered about the coast. Mild to warm in the north but becoming cooler in the south as freshening west to southwesterly winds extend throughout.
