For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's
web site www.bom.gov.au/qld
Weather Situation
A weak monsoon flow extends over Cape York Peninsula. A weak surface trough
extends from northwestern Queensland into the southeast interior.
Forecast for the rest of Monday
Mainly fine over southeast, central coast and Central Highlands except for
some isolated and mainly light afternoon showers and just the chance of some
isolated inland thunderstorms. Rain areas and thunderstorms over the northwest,
with some moderate to heavy local falls. Fine over the far southwest. Monsoonal
rain areas, showers and thunderstorms continuing in the far northern tropics.
Ocean swells breaking dangerously onshore along coastal waters south of Sandy
Cape, easing overnight. Moderate NW winds in the far north. Moderate S to SE
winds in the Channel Country. Light winds elsewhere.
Forecast for Tuesday
A ridge will extend into the southern interior, with the drier S'ly winds
resulting in fine conditions over southwestern Queensland. A surface trough will
extend from northwestern Queensland through the central interior and into the
southeast. The monsoon trough will slip a little further south with monsoonal
rain areas and thunderstorms expected north of about Townsville to Normanton.
Scattered showers and isolated storms over the southern tropics, spreading to
rain areas with some moderate to heavy local falls in the west. Showers and
isolated thunderstorms elsewhere.
Forecast for Wednesday
Monsoonal rain and thunderstorms should extend southwards to about Bowen -
Century Mine. A surface trough should persist from northwestern Queensland into
the southeastern interior, and this combined with an upper level trough should
result in scattered showers and thunderstorms through the northwest, central and
southeast districts. Fine in the southwest in the continuing dry S'ly flow.
Forecast for Thursday
A high will move into the Tasman Sea and gradually extend a ridge along the
southern Queensland coast. The ridge should gradually push the monsoon rain
areas northwards to the Townsville region late in the day. Unstable conditions
will persist over central and southeastern Queensland ahead of the ridge with
showers and thunderstorms expected. Remaining fine in the southwest.
Outlook for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
The ridge to the south of QLD should continue to build and is expected to
push the monsoonal rain and thunderstorm areas to the north of about Cairns by
Saturday. The ridge will also stabilise the weather over the southeast coast,
southeast interior, and in central parts, with just isolated showers expected
about the coast and hinterland south of about Yeppoon. Mostly fine conditions
are expected to remain over the southern interior.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:10 pm EST
Monday.
